Received Ph. D (2009) in Biochemistry, and the research work was on identifying therapeutics from natural sources for insulin resistance by employing animal models. The current research area is Nutrition and dietary-based interventional studies in preventing/treating age-related/ lifestyle - diseases with special emphasis on diabetes and obesity complications. We revealed the effect of obesity on the brain Ubiquitin-Proteasome System and its possible underlying mechanisms in neurodegeneration including modulation of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress. We demonstrated the beneficiary outcome of dietary restriction in obesity-induced neurodegeneration. Our studies revealed a role for micronutrients in combating diabetic complications and the molecular mechanisms involved. We also explore the effect of micronutrient deficiencies on certain cell signaling pathways. Currently, work is in progress to elucidate the potential role of vitamins in the development and functioning of the brain and retina.
